It is with great sadness that the LBM announces the passing of Vincent Arondel after a long illness, on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the age of 55 years.
Vincent was a great scientist interested for decades on plant lipids. He identified the first desaturase FAD3 by map‐based cloning, isolated the first bacterial PE methyl transferase and cloned an important lipase in palm fruit.
He joined the LBM in 2007 where he did seminal works on the comparison of oil and data palm metabolism.
Vincent will be forever remembered by his colleagues, students and dear friends.

[ April 25, 2018] Jérôme Joubès and Frédéric Domergue from the surface lipids team contributed to a chapter entitled "Biosynthesis of the plant cuticle" in the handbook of hydrocabon and lipid microbiology, in which they present the molecular and biochemical characterization of the main enzymes catalyzing the major steps in cuticular compound biosynthesis in plants (DOI : 10.1007/978-3-319-54529-5_8-1).

[April 20, 2018] Amélie Bernard participated in the recently published study of the post-transcriptional control of autophagy by XRN1 in collaboration with the Klionsky Lab (Delorme-Axford et al., Autophagy, 2018).
In yeast, deletion of XRN1 enhances autophagy and the frequency of autophagosome formation. Loss of Xrn1 results in the upregulation of autophagy-related (ATG) transcripts under nutrient-replete conditions, and this effect is dependent on the ribonuclease activity of Xrn1. In mammalian cells, siRNA depletion of XRN1 enhances autophagy and the replication of 2 picornaviruses.
