Jerome and Fred, in collaboration with the team of Christophe Rothan from BFP unit in Bordeaux, participated in the characterization of a new tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) cutin mutant. The fruit cuticle thickness, composition and properties were altered in the gpat6 mutant. In vitro assays with recombinant proteins produced in yeast showed that a point mutation adjacent to the active site of the GPAT6 enzyme completely abolished its acyltransferase activity.
